Maintenance Technician

Job Description

 

Department: Maintenance Department

Reports To: Maintenance Director

Summary: 

The purpose of the Maintenance Department is to maintain the Hospital’s physical environment and provide maintenance services towards the goal of achieving excellence in the delivery of quality healthcare and public service. The maintenance department also provides a safe, functional, supportive, and effective environment for patients, staff members, and individuals who come to the hospital facilities. It is responsible for ensuring safe and economical operation and maintenance of hospital facilities and equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Perform labor necessary to maintain all mechanical, electrical, heating, and plumbing systems in good repair and fully-functional

  • Ensure facility grounds are kept clean and safe

  • Be readily available for emergency after-hours maintenance calls

  • Perform minor and major repairs of all buildings and equipment

    • All major repairs are performed under the supervision of licensed maintenance workers

  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on building equipment, maintenance procedures and maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures

  • Perform preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis: repairs or replaces broken parts, inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.

  • Perform routine electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs or fluorescent lamps and assists in repairing ballast and light fixtures, and faulty switches and plugs

  • Replace broken windows, repairs doors, door locks, and window blinds

  • Maintain landscaping, which includes applying chemicals, fertilizers, etc.

  • Apply pesticides as needed to rid of pests and insects

  • Comply with all policy and procedures of SSCH

  • Maintain an orderly environment of all mechanical rooms

  • Move furniture and equipment upon instruction

  • Perform routine plumbing repairs such as unstopping toilets, sinks, or urinals, fix water leaks, leaking faucets, and water fountains

  • Patch holes and paints interior and exterior walls

  • Perform inspection of the premises to ensure that hazardous conditions are immediately taken care of

  • Use specialized equipment such as blowers and mowers to perform cleaning duties

Education and/or Experience                                                   

  1. High School Diploma or GED

  2. One year of building maintenance experience, or any equivalent combination of training or experience

 

Language Skills                                                

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret maintenance tasks. Ability to accurately and intelligently document all activities performed in maintenance records.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the maintenance supervisor.

 

Mathematical Skills                                                     

Ability to perform basic math skills.

 

Reasoning Ability                                             

Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.

There is a frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), handle hazardous materials, use hand and power tools, climb ladders, talk, and hear as well as perform similar actions during the course of the workday. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
